Summer Book Club Selection: "Falling Upward"

Every summer I pick a couple books that have had an impact on me and I want to share with others. I invite people to read along at their own pace (especially good for summer schedules!) and then gather  to discuss it. All of us are learners. No one is an expert. 

My first selection for the summer is Richard Rohr's, Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life. Rohr is a prolific writer and one of the leading voices on Christian spirituality. Here is a short introduction to the book from the author himself.

 

While people can read this book on their own, we are going to give another alternative. The Spiritual Formation Team (a new ministry at New Hope) is helping sponsor this discussion. We are going to create a web site where people can reflect and comment on the book online. Each week, someone will take read ahead a few chapters and give some thoughts about what impacted them and the questions that were raised in their reading. People can benefit from those reflections and comment as they choose. I think it will enhance the experience and I am looking forward to this experiment! That site will be up and available this Sunday and you'll be able to get there through the New Hope web page as well as this blog. Whether you read along with others or just want to read on your own, the date for discussion is Sunday, July 26. We will be on our Summer Schedule with one worship service at 10:00, so the discussion will begin at 11:30 and last about 90 minutes.
